Projects undertaken during 2015-2020 as Director, NCERT

Projects undertaken:

i. Consultations related to New National Education Policy in States/UTs:
63 consultations with regard to NEP were conducted by the NCERT going to the grass root level. In December, 2016, National level Consultation with various stakeholders on NEP’s earlier draft was conducted. State/UT wise reports and a National Report were submitted to the Ministry. Also led the analysis of around 1.5 lakh suggestions received with regard to the NEP, 2020 in the year 2018 constituting 09 committees on various aspects of school education.
ii. Development of Learning Outcomes at the Elementary Stage:
This project was undertaken in 2017 and within one-year Learning Outcomes were developed and disseminated in states/UTs to address the requirement of learning outcomes at the elementary stage with regard to RTE,2009,
iii. Learning Outcomes for the Secondary Stage had also been developed in 2018
iv. Pre-school Curriculum and Guidelines:
In 2018, keeping in view the demand of the states/UTs emerged during NEP consultations, process of development of pre-school curriculum and guidelines was initiated and these two documents were completed in the year 2019 for wider dissemination
v. As an Academic Authority of Curriculum and Evaluation for RTE 2009, Guideline on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation was also developed for the elementary stage in the year 2018.
vi. Promoted Art Integrated Learning across classes leading development of supportive guidelines in 2019, other material related to this area and also conduct of activities such as ‘Art Festival- Kala Utsav’.
vii. Led Review of Textbooks of NCERT in the year 2017-18 for updation with regard to Census, 2011, national priorities and national level initiatives. Again in 2018-19, another review of the textbooks was done to address the reduction of curriculum load. This was done by analyzing suggestions received from around 27000 stakeholders on a web portal created by the ministry.
viii. For the first time, NCERT had undertaken publication of Vocational Education Textbooks for classes IX to XII to be implemented in the schools. Around 42 textbooks on various job roles were already published in 2018-2020.
ix. Led publication of two textbooks on ‘yoga’ and the development of Health and Well-being Curriculum under Ayushman Bharat.
x. Led publication of textbooks in new areas, such as Knowledge Traditions and Practices in India, Biotechnology, etc.
xi. Teacher Professional Development (NISHTHA and IMPACT):
A study on the quality of in-service teacher education programmes of the NCERT was conducted in the year 2017. Based on its findings, an innovative integrated programme of teacher professional development reducing cascade layers was designed and piloted in the state of Tripura. Further, this integrated programme was scaled up as National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement aiming at training of 42 lakh teachers and school heads at the elementary stage in the entire country. Under face-to-face mode, covering 17.5 lakh teachers and school heads, now NISHTHA has also been made available online on the NISHTHA and DIKSHA Portal. Further, on the demand of J&K, Integrated Multidisciplinary Professional Advancement Course for Teachers (IMPACT) for one-month duration was designed to be conducted for 32,000 teachers.
xii. Institutional Reform related to academic process:
(a) Promoted Integrated and Interdisciplinary field-based researches i.e. Study of six blocks in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Meghalaya and Tripura.
(b) Promoted development of curricular and teacher support material and capacity building through inter-departmental and inter-institutional team work and collaboration (Learning Outcomes, NISHTHA, e-content development, etc.
xiii. National Achievement Survey, 2017:
Led the conduct for NAS, 2017 for classes III, V and VIII with learning-outcome based tools for 22 lakh students. NAS for class X was also conducted in 2017.
xiv. During lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, lead the development of:
(a) Alternative Academic Calendar for all the classes in all the subject areas to engage Children at home through online education/parent guided education/ self-study
(b) PRAGYATA guidelines for online education
(c) NISHTHA-online
(d) Guidance and Counseling Live Interactive Sessions- ‘Sahyog
(e) Students’ Learning Enhancement Guidelines
xv. At present, continuing as professor in NCERT, Regional Institute of Education Bhubaneswar and engaged in academic works.
