About ITEP

The Integrated Teacher Education programme (ITEP) introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is a four-year under graduate programme designed to prepare prospective teachers by integrating both academic coursework and practical teaching experiences. This programme is an innovative structure given by NEP 2020 aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills, developing pedagogical knowledge and attitudes to effectively teach and engage students in the classroom.

This ITEP programme integrates general education courses with the teacher training/professional education. ITEP not only enhances the quality of teacher education but also contributes significantly to the overall improvement of educational standards in schools. These programmes include curricular components based on the foundations of education, subject specialisation, pedagogy courses, ability enhancement courses, school experience and community engagement. The curriculum is as per the norms of and regulations of NCTE and UGC.

Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar, a constituent unit of NCERT has been offering the Four year integrated B.Sc. B.Ed./ B.A. B.Ed. programmes since 1963-64 session. As per the NCTE norms, the Institution is going to introduce four-year integrated teacher education programme (ITEP) i.e. B.Sc. B.Ed.(Middle Stage, Secondary Stage) and B.A.B.Ed .(Middle Stage, Secondary Stage) from the academic year 2026-27. The students who opt for teaching as their career after completing secondary education will be eligible to take the four years ITEP course. ITEP (B.Sc. B.Ed and B.A. B.Ed.) permits them to finish their dual degree within four years instead of five years and make them qualified for teaching profession. The graduates of ITEP, immersed in a multi-disciplinary setting that embraces Indian values and traditions, will be imbued with a deep understanding of the demands of 21st-century global standards. As a result, they will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of New India, serving as the catalysts for positive change. The program has been meticulously crafted to offer aspiring educators a well-rounded and all-encompassing educational experience.
